About the Position
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Pilot to provide technical advice and practical support to Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) and Tanzania Wildlife Management (TAWA) by providing aerial surveillance support for law enforcement and monitoring.
Your Tasks
- Ensure all FZS-operated aircraft within the project are maintained according to service schedules, and comply with regulations by Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) and Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), including licenses, inspections, and other requirements
- Assist in managing FZS-operated aircraft and provide advice to the Programme Manager, ensuring professional maintenance and storage of aircraft
- Oversee the use of FZS aircraft, ensuring that any operations outside designated park boundaries are approved by the Project Leader or Tanzania Country Director
- Support the management of aircraft fuel, including resupply and safe storage at project sites
- Promote the use of Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) for wildlife monitoring and protection, monitor the programme’s activation, and assess safety and maintenance regularly
- Pilot FZS-operated aircraft within the project, providing aerial support for law enforcement, logistics, and wildlife monitoring
- Conduct aerial patrols focusing on key wildlife species such as elephants, buffalo, and rhino
- Strengthen the aerial reporting system, including tracklogs and observation waypoints, and collaborate with TANAPA, TAWA, and FZS teams to enhance patrol effectiveness monitoring
- Consolidate and report the outcomes of aerial patrols to Protected Area authorities
- Collaborate with pilots from partner organizations to plan and implement aerial law enforcement operations, identify candidates for pilot training, and support fundraising efforts for training programs
Your Profile
- Experienced Pilot, ideally with 2000 hours flying experience and significant time spent in remote field locations
- Experience with law enforcement and aerial monitoring in the context of protected area management
- Interest in the technical side of an aircraft, with a full understanding of the dynamics and safety requirements of good maintenance and flight protocols
