The Popular Inspiring & Relief Organisation (PIRO) was registered in 1997 (Zanzibar Societies Act #6, 1995) as The Pemba Island Relief Organisation (PIRO) with the intention of improving the lives and welfare of the people of Zanzibar by joining with and supplementing government efforts towards development. To date, our projects are in all districts of Unguja and Pemba and are serving many communities.
Our organization is among the most respected and influential relief, advocacy and development organization in Zanzibar. For more than 24 years, the organization has managed complex, multi-sector community development projects, under bilateral and multilateral program agreements that have assisted many people including youth, women in Zanzibar. Our efficiency and accountability inspire the financial and trust rankings from government, institutions, foundations, and other donors.
