GCM Facilitators Recruitment Criteria

WAJAMAMA Foundation (soon to be WAJAMAMA Community Health) is a women-led grassroots NGO originated in Zanzibar that aims to revolutionize reproductive, maternal, and child health outcomes in sub-Saharan Africa. Our locally driven, innovative, and evidence-based solutions drive strategic changes in healthcare systems. Our initiatives are designed to sustainably and responsibly break the cycle of trauma, poverty, and disempowerment by equipping healthcare providers with knowledge and tools to provide safe, respectful, and evidence-based care for all.

Group Care Model (GCM) is an initiative by WAJAMAMA Community Health that makes high-quality clinical services, facilitated learning, community building, and peer-to-peer support accessible to women and their infants. Through this initiative, women get to learn about essential information such as mental health, nutrition, and ways to take care of their holistic wellbeing during the preconception, prenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods.

About the Role

We are looking for Community Clinical Facilitators who will assume a pivotal role in making our initiatives accessible at public Reproductive and Child Health clinics and in the community in Zanzibar. She/he will assume this role once or twice per week as a freelancer.  She/he will be reporting to the GCM/RH coordinator/s.

Task and Responsibilities

  • Conduct recruitment of pregnant women within the catchment area of selected health facilities into GCM services under well-informed consent.
  • Conduct day-to-day prenatal and postnatal sessions as per the standard visit schedule used by the Integrated Reproductive and Child Health Program of Zanzibar (8 sessions recommended) using the GCM approach.
  • Provide referral of mothers and children with special health concerns to the clinician or medical doctor of the respective health facility.
  • Provide reminders to mothers about their upcoming visits.
  • Maintain proper documentation and enter session data promptly.
  • Facilitate interactive workshops and mentorship programs for young women on menstrual health and hygiene, nutrition, and mental well-being.
  • Work with community leaders, educators, and health workers to create supportive environments for young women.
  • Participate in all required capacity-building training.
  • Ensure adherence to WAJAMAMA’s guidelines for quality facilitation.
  • Collaborate with other facilitators and coordinators to improve program delivery.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all program participants.

Minimum Requirement

    • Education: 
      • Diploma in nursing, midwifery, clinical medicine, psychology or a related field.
  • Experience:
      • Prior experience in maternal health, adolescent health, reproductive health, or mental health is a plus.
      • Experience working with groups in facilitation or training roles is a plus.
  • Skills & Attributes:
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to facilitate group discussions and peer-learning activities.
    • Fluent in Kiswahili and English.
    • Comfortable working in both clinical and community settings.
    • Willingness to undergo capacity-building training.
    • Flexible and a team player
