Introduction

The High Commission of the Republic of Kenya, Dar es Salaam, is looking for highly motivated candidates for the following positions:

  • Office Cleaner (two-year renewable contract based on performance)

  • Consular Assistant (one-year renewable contract based on performance)


Office Cleaner

Candidate requirements

The ideal candidate must have the following skills and competences:

  • Certificate of Secondary School Education qualification or equivalent.

  • Valid Tanzanian residence or work permit.

  • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Tanzanian Authorities.

  • Proficiency in English/Kiswahili and a good working command of either language.

  • Demonstrated outstanding professional competence in work performance and results.

  • Positive attitude, dedication, and strong work ethics.

  • Good knowledge of Tanzania and its environs.

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a busy organization in private or public sector. Experience in an Embassy is an advantage.

  • A high standard for cleanliness, with understanding of different chemicals and detergents used in cleaning.

  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask.

  • Time-management skills.

  • Flexibility to assist in other office duties.

  • Repair/maintenance skills are an added advantage.

  • Any other relevant skills will be an added advantage.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Ensure the premises are well cleaned and maintained.

  • Maintain supplies by ensuring cleaning materials are stocked and tools cleaned regularly.

  • Empty trash bins, wash them, and add liners as needed.

  • Replenish consumable items such as soap, tissue, serviettes, and toilet paper.

  • Keep track of the cleaning schedule.

  • Ensure the kitchen area is hygienic.

  • Adhere to health and safety guidelines and Mission policies.

  • Conduct monthly disinfection and deep cleaning.

  • Report to the Officer in charge of Local Staff.

  • Undertake any other duties assigned by the designated Officer or Supervisor.

Consular Assistant

Candidate requirements

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, social sciences, or a relevant field.

  • Two (2) years of experience in a busy organization in public or private sector; consular experience is an advantage.

  • Valid Tanzanian residence or work permit.

  • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct.

  • Proficiency in English/Kiswahili and a good working command.

  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team.

  • Professional competence in work performance and results.

  • Ability to work well under pressure, multitask, and be flexible.

  • Positive attitude and strong work ethics.

  • Diplomatic and etiquette skills.

  • Ability to interact with people of different cultures and personalities.

  • Proficient in ICT and experienced in using computer programs.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Receive all applications submitted at the High Commission (Passport, Citizenship, Marriage Certificate, No Impediment Certificate, Good Conduct Certificate, Birth Certificate applications, etc.) for forwarding to relevant authorities.

  • Check completeness of applications and advise applicants on requirements and procedures.

  • Prepare emergency travel documents.

  • Advise customers on payments and receipt all payments for chargeable applications.

  • Respond to inquiries from applicants at the counter and on the phone.

  • Prepare daily reports of applications received, receipts issued, and total revenue collected.

  • Release processed documents to applicants.

  • Submit daily revenue collection returns to the Financial Attaché.

  • Maintain and update the register of the Kenyan Diaspora.

  • Assist in preparing consular returns and reports (monthly, quarterly, annually).

  • Attend to phone calls and advise applicants on consular services.

  • Perform any other duties as directed by the Head of Mission or responsible officer.
