WE’RE HIRING: SENIOR MINE GEOLOGIST
Location: New Luika Gold Mine, Songwe Region
Roster: 42 Days On / 21 Days Off
Accommodation: Camp-Based
Reports To: Chief Mine Geologist
Role Overview
The Senior Mine Geologist will oversee all mine geology functions to ensure accurate ore delineation, effective grade control, and optimal extraction. Responsibilities include geological mapping, supervising sampling programs, updating grade control models, and supporting resource estimation. The role involves close coordination with mining and technical teams to reduce ore loss, ensure efficient ore delivery, and support production planning. Additional duties include QA/QC implementation, mentoring juniors, managing geology costs, and ensuring compliance with safety and reporting standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Safety Leadership
- Promote safety culture and procedures among teams
- Conduct safety interactions and report hazards
2. Grade Control & Ore Management
- Oversee drilling, sampling, and ore delineation
- Define ore boundaries to minimize dilution
- Maintain and update grade control models
3. Mapping & Data Management
- Ensure geological mapping and model updates
- Monitor ore flow to ROM and crusher feed
- Manage geological data and validation
4. Sampling & QA/QC Systems
- Enforce proper sampling techniques
- Maintain QA/QC processes
- Monitor blanks, duplicates, and standards
5. Resource Modeling
- Support model updates and reconciliation
- Review block models and guide mine planning
6. Coordination & Communication
- Align with Engineers on drill platform needs
- Communicate geological plans to production teams
- Deliver geological forecasts and reports
7. Mentorship & Team Development
- Supervise and mentor junior geologists
- Review and improve geological procedures
- Build a culture of ownership and accountability
8. Cost Management
- Manage geology budgets
- Identify cost-effective solutions
9. Continuous Improvement
- Investigate mineralization trends
- Trial and adopt new geological tools/practices
10. Reporting & Compliance
- Complete timely reports
- Ensure legal and policy compliance
- Report hazards, incidents, and near misses
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
bachelor’s degree in Geology or Engineering Geology
- 5–10 years’ experience in mine geology (UG/open pit)
- Proficiency in 3D software (Surpac, Leapfrog, etc.)
- Strong leadership, reporting & analytical skills
