The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) is the oldest and biggest university in Tanzania, offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and non-degree programs. Applications for admission into various programs are conducted through the UDSM-OLAS – the Online Admission System of the University of Dar es Salaam. How to Apply

Step 1: Go to the UDSM Online Application / Admission Portal

Applications for all programs are made through the UDSM-OLAS at https://admission.udsm.ac.tz. You will find HOME, UNDERGRADUATE, POSTGRADUATE, and LOGIN tabs on the portal. For undergraduate applications, click the Undergraduate tab where you’ll see the Instructions and Registration tabs. Be sure to read and follow the instructions carefully.

Step 2: Create an Admission Account

To create your admission account:

• Click on the Registration tab.
• Enter your Form Four details (First Name and Surname as per the certificate).
• Add your email address and mobile phone number.
• Set a clever password for future logins.
• Enter the CAPTCHA displayed on the page.
• Select REGISTER AS UNDERGRADUATE to create your account.

Once registered, an email will be sent to the provided address. Check your email and click the link to activate your UDSM-OLAS account. Your email will serve as your username, and the password is the one you selected during registration.

Step 3: Sign in to Your UDSM-OLAS Account

After activating your account, log in to the UDSM-OLAS portal at https://admission.udsm.ac.tz. Use your email and password to sign in. Upon logging in, you should see a message confirming your account activation. To begin your application, click on ‘My Application.’

Step 4: Personalize Your Profile

After logging in, you must complete your profile. Fill in the required fields such as:

• Category of Application (Direct Entry or Equivalent).
• Full names as they appear on your secondary certificate.
• Sex, country of citizenship, and type of disability (if applicable).
• Ensure the information matches your official academic documents.

Step 5: Pay the Application Fee

After completing your profile, you will need to pay a non-refundable application fee:

• Tanzanians: TZS 10,000
• Non-Tanzanians: $10

Tanzanian applicants will receive a payment reference number (control number) through the UDSM-OLAS platform. Payments can be made via mobile money services like M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa, or Airtel Money.

Mobile Money Payment Instructions:

Payment Method	Instructions
M-Pesa	Dial *150*00#, choose Lipa kwa M-Pesa, then select Malipo ya Serikali. Input the reference number from UDSM-OLAS.
Tigo Pesa	Dial *150*01#, choose ‘Lipa Bili’, then ‘Malipo ya Serikali’. Enter the reference number.
Airtel Money	Dial *150*60#, choose Lipia Bili, then Malipo ya Serikali, and enter the reference number.

Once the payment is made, the system will automatically update, allowing you to proceed with your application.

Step 6: Enter Academic Qualifications

Fill in your educational details based on your eligibility:

• Form IV and VI Direct Entry (NECTA Results):
  • Select your educational level (O-Level/A-Level).
  • Enter your index number and year of completion.
  • If you have more sittings, click Add Sitting.
• Direct Entry Equivalent Applicants:
  • Choose your academic level.
  • Enter your index number and completion year.
  • Upload your diploma certificates (in PDF format).
  • Applicants with foreign certificates need an equivalency number from NECTA. Enter the equivalency number and year of completion.

Step 7: Choose Programs

You can select a minimum of three and a maximum of fifteen programs. Ensure that your career interests align with the programs you choose. After selecting your programs, UDSM will notify you via email regarding your application status. If you receive an offer, you must accept it to finalize your admission.

UDSM Postgraduate Online Application

For postgraduate applicants, the process is similar to the undergraduate application, with differences in required documents and fees. Local students pay an application fee of TZS 50,000, while foreign students pay TZS 120,000.

Postgraduate Application Steps:

1. Apply: Click the POSTGRADUATE tab and select REGISTRATION to create an account.
2. Complete Profile: Fill in details such as gender, nationality, etc.
3. Pay Application Fee: Pay the fee using the reference number provided by the system via mobile money or bank transfer.
4. Upload Academic Records: Upload transcripts, certificates, and referee details.
5. Submit Application: After completing all steps, submit your application. You will receive updates on your admission status via email.
