Caritas Tabora was established in 1976 as organ of the Archdiocese of Tabora to help people in the areas of relief and emergency (refugees, people affected by drought, hunger and floods etc.). This is reflected in the initial mission of the organization: to help needy people within local communities and other individuals who were in crucial need of emergency support, especially during human and natural catastrophes. Caritas Tabora is diverse by nature; it is a member of Caritas Tanzania, which is also member of caritas World.
In 1977, Caritas Tabora extended its services and became a development office and fundamentally a social agent in promoting gender equality, provision of health services and promoting sustainable development. Its mission is now to support peoples’ own initiatives in acquiring better living standards. This facilitation is carried out without discrimination of colour, religion, gender, tribe or cultural differences.
Caritas is the department within the Archdiocese of Tabora: THE REGISTERED TRUSTEES OF THE ARCHDIOCESE OF TABORA to fulfill the aims of the Archdiocese of Tabora as per the Constitution Article 4 Section 2 ‘to assist in promoting the common good of all people regardless of creed, living within the Archdiocese of Tabora for their spiritual as well as their socio-economic welfare.
