Purpose of the Role

The role aims to provide technical and metallurgical support to ensure the Process Plant operates at maximum efficiency. The incumbent will monitor and optimize plant performance, support production teams with technical expertise, and contribute to process improvements through data analysis, metallurgical test work, and operational initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mineral Processing Engineering or Metallurgy and Mineral Processing Engineering.
  • Must be registered with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) of Tanzania.

Experience

  • Minimum of four (4) years of hands-on experience in mineral processing, preferably in gold processing operations (CIL/Gravity circuits).

Additional Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of metallurgical test work and plant optimization techniques.
  • Basic understanding of comminution, classification, leaching, elution, and electrowinning operations.
  • Familiarity with metallurgical software for mass balancing, simulation, and process control (an advantage).
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, prepare technical reports, and recommend improvements.
  • Ability to monitor reagent and consumable usage for cost efficiency.
  • Excellent technical writing and reporting skills.

Key Accountabilities

1. Safety, Compliance & General Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to company policies, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
  • Apply strong technical understanding of comminution systems, CIL circuits, gravity recovery, elution, and electrowinning.
  • Utilize process control loops, digitalization, and laboratory management in plant operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support plant objectives.

2. Technical Support & Plant Optimization

  • Conduct metallurgical activities to achieve optimal plant efficiency across all circuits.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly metallurgical accounting reports.
  • Perform circuit modelling, mass balances, and process simulations.
  • Analyze metallurgical data to identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support water quality monitoring in coordination with the Water Treatment Plant team.
  • Optimize reagent and consumable usage to achieve cost-effective results.
  • Conduct plant performance reviews to drive continuous improvement.

3. Metallurgical Test Work & Research

  • Conduct metallurgical sampling, surveys, and instrument calibrations.
  • Perform laboratory test work for ore characterization and process improvement.
  • Participate in geometallurgical studies to understand ore variability and its impact on performance.
  • Maintain accurate metallurgical inventory measurements.
  • Support innovation and the adoption of new technologies.

4. Reporting & Documentation

  • Compile and interpret metallurgical data for operational and management reports.
  • Develop and update operating procedures and data log sheets under senior metallurgist supervision.
  • Support audits, inspections, and compliance activities in line with company standards.

5. Cost & Resource Management

  • Monitor reagent and consumable consumption to manage operating costs.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses for metallurgical test work and process improvements.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of resources to achieve cost-effective outcomes.

6. Training & Knowledge Transfer

  • Train and mentor graduate metallurgists, metallurgical technicians, and plant operators.
  • Share best practices to support continuous learning and professional growth.
