The Role
Drive business development and manage strategic relationships within the EMDOs segment. Structure tailored financial solutions that support growth, profitability, and UBA’s market leadership with development-sector clients.

Job Objectives & Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Account Management

Build and maintain a country database of EMDOs; target and acquire “must-win” accounts/mandates.

Engage EMDOs to understand African projects, fund flows, and third-party intermediaries.

Lead account negotiation, opening, and ongoing management—especially for new projects.

Execute a dynamic “Must Win list” with recurrent proposals and close collaboration with the Group EMDOs Team.

Identify SDG-related events/causes for strategic partnerships or sponsorships.

Strategy, Networking & Collaboration

Create annual relationship plans and monthly business pipelines to meet profitability targets.

Network to ensure UBA’s inclusion in EMDO databases and invitations to national RFIs/RFPs.

Coordinate with EMDO Relationship Managers in London and New York for global pitches.

Partner with Retail and Transaction Banking Sales on proposals.

Product & Financial Management

Maintain deep product knowledge relevant to EMDOs; guide product units on new initiatives.

Ensure delivery on service commitments and excellent product execution.

Advise Country MD/CEO on new opportunities and strategies for financial benefits.

Enhance service efficiency across UBA’s EMDOs business.

Key Performance Competencies

Achieve approved EMDOs PBT (Profit Before Tax) target.

Deliver sustainable segment growth and expanding share of wallet.

Candidate Profile

Education (Required): Bachelor’s in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Banking, International Relations, or related field.

Education (Advantageous): Master’s in Development Studies, International Business, or Economics.

Professional Certifications (Advantageous): CIDF, CPA, or CFA.

Experience: 3+ years in relationship management—ideally with development organizations, NGOs, bilateral/multilateral agencies, or international development institutions—plus proven experience in structuring risk-aware and sustainable finance solutions (grants, project finance, concessional lending). Strong grasp of global development trends, regulatory frameworks, and cross-cultural client management across countries/regions.
