Job Title: Customer Service Officer / Teller

Department: Branch Operations
Reports To: Branch Manager

Job Purpose

To ensure smooth and efficient customer banking operations at the branch by handling all cash and non-cash transactions, providing quality customer service, cross-selling and upselling bank products, and maintaining compliance with standard operating procedures, policies, and regulatory guidelines.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Customer Service and Operations

  • Process customers’ requests for account opening, maintenance, and closure in line with the bank’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Accurately post cash and non-cash transactions after thorough verification and approval.
  • Handle customer queries and complaints promptly, ensuring timely resolution and feedback.
  • Provide information on bank products and services to enhance customer understanding and engagement.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all bank products and services.

Sales and Business Growth

  • Cross-sell and upsell bank products and services to existing customers.
  • Identify and contact potential customers to generate new business leads and expand the customer base.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Scrutinize internal vouchers to ensure they are correctly drawn, authorized, and aligned with customer mandates and approval limits.
  • Ensure compliance with the Bank’s policies, KYC norms, Customer Due Diligence (CDD), and Anti–Money Laundering (AML) procedures.
  • Report any suspicious transactions in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Custodianship and Branch Support (where applicable)

  • Act as a custodian for deliverables and negotiable instruments.
  • Handle Bank of Tanzania (BOT) cash deposits and withdrawals as required.
  • Maintain custody of the branch’s main and rear entrance keys.

Administrative Duties

  • Perform general clerical and administrative duties including filing, maintaining an orderly workstation, and ensuring branch housekeeping standards are met.
  • Provide consistent, high-quality service to customers in line with the bank’s service standards and operational policies.

Education, Experience & Skills

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in branch operations with a proven performance track record.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of banking operations and procedures.
  • Excellent sales, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and under minimal supervision.
  • Customer-focused with strong problem-solving abilities.
