Job Purpose
The Relationship Manager – Aquaculture will be responsible for growing both Liabilities (Deposits) and Assets (Loans) from Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Commercial clients engaged in aquaculture-related businesses.
The position will also involve advising the Agri Retail Department on strategies to expand and strengthen the aquaculture portfolio, supporting Relationship Officers and Branch Managers in business recruitment, and ensuring compliance with quality and performance standards for Agri Retail loans.
Additionally, the Relationship Manager will propose new business opportunities, support product development initiatives, and contribute to building a robust aquaculture-focused banking portfolio.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop and implement action plans to achieve asset and liability targets for the assigned zone.
- Review and recommend updates to the bank’s pricing policy for Agri Retail loan products based on field feedback.
- Initiate and manage customer engagement platforms such as Business Clubs, Agri Executive Networks, and aquaculture-focused events.
- Monitor and supervise all Agri Retail loans in the assigned area to maintain portfolio quality.
- Prepare periodic and ad hoc performance evaluation reports (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly) on assets and liabilities.
- Plan, prepare, and review marketing strategies for new and existing Agri Retail loan products.
- Ensure smooth operation of all Agri Retail loan product delivery processes and recommend improvements to the Head; Agri Retail.
- Review and assess credit appraisals from Relationship Officers for further action by the Credit Department.
- Assist branches and zones in preparing Agri Retail budgets for assets and liabilities.
- Train, mentor, and coach Relationship Officers on best practices in credit evaluation and Agri Retail customer management.
Knowledge and Skills
- In-depth understanding of aquaculture businesses and supply chains.
- Awareness of aquaculture regulations, licensing, and environmental compliance.
- Familiarity with aquaculture operations, including hatcheries, feed suppliers, and cold chain logistics.
- Strong knowledge of Agribusiness Retail Banking products and services relevant to aquaculture.
- Excellent understanding of agriculture sector dynamics and related laws.
- Sound knowledge of banking operations, financial markets, and cross-selling opportunities.
- Awareness of climate risks, post-harvest handling, and seafood value chains.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
- Strong communication skills (English and Swahili), with analytical, reporting, and presentation capabilities.
- Self-motivated, innovative, and capable of leading change.
- Excellent customer relationship management and leadership skills.
- Strong interpersonal, networking, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform under pressure.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Aquaculture, Marine Biology, Fisheries Science, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years’ banking experience, including roles in credit assessment, client management, project appraisal, and general banking operations.
- Proven success in sales and relationship management, preferably within the agricultural or marine sectors.
