Job Purpose
The Relationship Manager – Cereals will be responsible for driving growth in both Liabilities (Deposits) and Assets (Loans) from Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Commercial clients operating in the cereal value chain.
The role entails advising the Agri Retail Department on strategies to expand and strengthen the cereal portfolio, supporting Relationship Officers and Branch Managers in client acquisition, and ensuring high-quality portfolio performance across the assigned zone.
The Relationship Manager will also analyze the performance of Agri Retail loans, identify business opportunities, and collaborate with the Product Development team to design tailored financial solutions that meet the needs of agribusiness customers.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop and implement action plans to achieve asset and liability budget objectives within the assigned zone.
- Review and provide feedback on the bank’s pricing policy for Agri Retail loan products and services based on market insights.
- Initiate customer engagement initiatives such as Business Clubs, Agri Executive Networks, and cereal-focused events.
- Monitor and supervise all Agri Retail loans disbursed within the zone to maintain a healthy and quality portfolio.
- Prepare and submit timely reports on Agri Retail performance (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly).
- Plan, develop, and review marketing strategies for new and existing Agri Retail loan products.
- Ensure all Agri Retail loan product delivery processes operate efficiently and suggest improvements where necessary.
- Review credit appraisals submitted by Relationship Officers before forwarding them to the Credit Department.
- Assist branches and zones in preparing budgets for Agri Retail assets and liabilities.
- Train and coach Relationship Officers on best practices in agribusiness lending, client management, and loan evaluation.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of cereal production cycles, storage, logistics, and market dynamics.
- Sound knowledge of Agribusiness Retail Banking products and services across agricultural value chains.
- Excellent understanding of agriculture sector dynamics and relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Solid grasp of banking operations, loan products, and financial markets in Tanzania.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
- Strong communication skills (English and Kiswahili) with analytical, report writing, and presentation abilities.
- Self-motivated, innovative, and capable of leading change.
- Strong customer relationship management, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks effectively in a high-pressure environment.
- Demonstrated team building, people management, and performance development skills.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Crop Science, Food Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years’ banking experience, including credit assessment, client management, project appraisal, and other banking operations.
- Proven experience in agricultural lending and agribusiness sales, preferably within the cereals sector.
