Job Purpose
The Relationship Manager – Forestry will be responsible for growing both Liabilities (Deposits) and Assets (Loans) from Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Commercial clients engaged in forestry-related businesses.
The position involves advising the Agri Retail Department on business strategies to strengthen and expand the forestry portfolio, supporting Relationship Officers and Branch Managers in client recruitment, and ensuring business growth and portfolio quality within the assigned area.
The Relationship Manager will also monitor the performance of Agri Retail loans, identify growth opportunities, and support the Product Development team in designing innovative financial solutions tailored to agribusiness customers, particularly in the forestry value chain.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop and implement action plans to achieve asset and liability growth targets for the assigned zone.
- Review and provide recommendations on pricing policies for Agri Retail products and services based on market feedback.
- Initiate and coordinate customer engagement platforms such as Business Clubs, Agri Executive Networks, and forestry-related events.
- Monitor and supervise all Agri Retail loans issued within the zone to ensure portfolio quality and compliance.
- Prepare and submit periodic and ad hoc performance reports (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly) on assets and liabilities.
- Plan, prepare, and review marketing strategies for both new and existing Agri Retail loan products.
- Ensure the effectiveness of loan delivery processes and recommend operational improvements where needed.
- Review and assess credit appraisals submitted by Relationship Officers before forwarding them to the Credit Department.
- Assist branches and zones in preparing Agri Retail budgets for assets and liabilities.
- Train and coach Relationship Officers on best practices in agribusiness lending, customer service, and portfolio management.
Knowledge and Skills
- Comprehensive understanding of the forestry business and its supply chains.
- Strong knowledge of Agri Retail Banking products and services across agricultural value chains.
- Awareness of forestry economics, sustainability practices, and environmental regulations.
- Excellent knowledge of agriculture sector dynamics and relevant legal frameworks.
- Sound understanding of banking operations, financial markets, and cross-selling opportunities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
- Excellent communication skills (English and Kiswahili) with strong analytical, reporting, and presentation capabilities.
- Highly self-motivated, innovative, and capable of driving change.
- Strong customer relationship management, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks effectively in high-pressure environments.
- Demonstrated skills in people management, team building, and developing high-performing teams.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Agricultural Economics, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years’ banking experience, including credit assessment, client management, project appraisal, and other banking operations.
- Strong understanding of forestry supply chains, timber markets, and carbon credit systems.
